Music and song are, of course, integral parts of any powwow. And the latter half of March features two chances for North Carolinians to attend these gatherings integral to indigenous life – on Saturday, March 22nd the 2025 BraveNation Powwow and Gathering (BNPG) will be held in the Jones Athletic Center at the University of North Carolina-Pembroke. Grand entry is at noon, and doors open to the public at 10 am. The BNPG demonstrates UNC Pembroke’s commitment to its historical mission of service to American Indian people, not only the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, but other Native nations and organizations in North Carolina and beyond. The event also promotes the success of UNC Pembroke’s American Indian students by creating a sense of on-campus community. And on March 29th, the 38th Annual Carolina Indian Circle Powwow will be held in Woolen Gym on the campus on the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Finally, in April, additional powows held at University of North Carolina-Greensboro, NC State, and Duke University, will provide further opportunities for the public to experience this vital facet of American Indian culture.
