It’s October and with the turning of the leaves, this month we’re celebrating the birthdays of nine stellar Tarheel musicians. Let’s wish a happy birthday to rapper MAVI (Charlotte), jazz piano giant Thelonious Sphere Monk (Rocky Mount), composer and conductor Lamar Stringfield (Raleigh), Rainbow Kitten Surprise lead vocalist Ela Melo (Boone), gospel powerhouse Shirley Caesar (Durham), banjo innovator Snuffy Jenkins (Harris), Blue Sky Boy Bill Bolick (Hickory), rock drummer/comedian Jon Wurster (Chapel Hill), and legendary Chic bassist Bernard Edwards (Greenville). @nc.dncr @ncartscouncil
